Care instructions for rentals

Thank you for renting from Historical Wardrobe. To ensure our authentic historical uniforms and costumes remain in excellent condition for future productions, please follow these care guidelines:

Items You May Launder

• Stockings / Socks – Machine wash on a gentle cycle with cold water.

• Cotton Shirts – Machine wash cold, gentle cycle. Tumble dry low or line dry.

Items You Must NOT Launder

Do not launder or machine wash any outer garments. This includes:

• Trousers

• Vests

• Coats

• Waistcoats

• Jackets

• Any garments made of wool or specialty fabrics

Dry Cleaning Guidelines

• All outer garments (especially wool items) may be dry cleaned.

• Do NOT press or crease trousers or coats—avoid creased ironing.

• Request steam finishing only for wool garments— “no press”.

• If any garment is altered to fit the actor, please return the garment to its original size and shape—do not remove any portion of the garment or convert it without consulting us.

• NO blood may be used on the garments without approval. The only blood product allowed is Ben Nye 'Mass Casualty' movie blood powder, which will rinse out of the garment with water.

Storage & Return Instructions

• All clothing must be completely dry before packing or returning to Historical Wardrobe.

• If garments become damp (from weather, sweat, or cleaning), hang them to air dry thoroughly before packing.

• When refreshing garments between days, you may use Febreze or a similar fabric refresher—do not wash or soak outer garments.

• Return all garments neatly packed to prevent wrinkles and damage.

If you’re unsure about a specific garment or situation, contact us before cleaning it. We also love to add pictures of final looks, if available, to our portfolio.

Please note that irreparable damage to garments may result in full cost replacement!
